NEF’s annual fundraiser helps
to enhance student programs
NOVI, Mich. – January 25, 2013 – The Novi Educational Foundation (NEF) is hosting the 7th Annual Green Gala fundraising event at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 23 at the Lyon Oaks County Park on Pontiac Trail in Wixom.
The annual extravaganza has grown in attendance over the years. Approximately
300 people come and enjoy casino games, silent auctions and raffles, dancing, food and drinks. Participants include parents, sponsors, community members, businesses, Novi Board of Education Trustees, Novi City Council Members, NEF Board members, Novi education staff, Novi alumni and friends of Novi Schools.
Tickets will go fast for this year’s Green Gala event. Pre-sale prices are $75 before February 15, and $90 after that date. Tickets may be purchased at all Novi public school buildings. Checks should be made payable to: Novi Educational Foundation-Green Gala and mailed to 25345 Taft Road, Novi, MI 48374-2423.
Tickets also can be purchased electronically on the NEF website at www.novieducationalfoundation.org.
Funds generated from the Green Gala event will be earmarked to district-wide program grants and student scholarship opportunities, in addition to the NEF’s “Leader in Me” fundraising campaign. Leader In Me is an innovative, personal-growth process that is woven into Novi’s elementary curriculum. Leader In Me is based on the famous Stephen Covey book
“Seven Habits Of Highly Effective People,” which helps adults become more successful in work, personal, and family relationships.
The Novi Community School District is making Stephen Covey habits part of its students’ educational culture to help develop the essential life skills and characteristics that students need in order to thrive academically, professionally and personally in the 21st century.
This year, the NEF is placing special emphasis in Leader In Me initiative because it provides an optimized classroom environment for student improvement and workforce readiness.
“In today’s competitive global society, our Novi children need more than just strong academic skills,” says Geoff Wood, NEF chairperson. “They also need critical life skills to ensure that they can work effectively in a fast-paced, highly-interconnected and diverse world.
“The Leader In Me educational model teaches these skills, and that’s why the NEF is launching a huge fundraising campaign in 2013,” Wood adds. “We want Leader In Me
to expand beyond elementary school. We want to see it in Novi Middle School and in Novi
High School. We want Leader In Me to grow and evolve into a district-wide program so all our Novi students will benefit from it.”
The Leader In Me fundraising campaign is just one of many examples of how the NEF works with local businesses and corporations to support educational and enrichment activities for Novi students.
