  • November 2, 2011

The Novi Police Department announces the graduation of Sergeant Erick Zinser from the School of Police Staff and Command (SPSC) at Eastern Michigan University last month.

Sergeant Zinser graduated fourth in the class of 44 law enforcement professionals. This class represented 31 different communities from southeast Michigan participating in a 10-month Staff and Command program.

“The SPSC program was a great opportunity for me to learn the next level of law enforcement management,” Zinser said. “I look forward to bringing new knowledge back to the Novi Police Department and sharing it throughout the organization.”

The School of Police Staff and Command provides upper-level academic instruction in a total of six core or mandatory blocks of instruction and utilizes over 30 additional optional blocks of instruction during each session. Major topics of study include Management and Management Theory, Grant Writing, Human Resources for Law Enforcement, Budgeting, Staffing Allocation and Homeland Security. The program has graduated more than 2,000 students since its creation in 1985.

“I am extremely proud of Sergeant Zinser’s professional, as well as academic accomplishments,” notes Novi’s Director of Public Safety/Chief of Police David E. Molloy. “The Staff and Command program provides students with the education and training needed to strengthen their capabilities with the Novi Police Department, while also enhancing resources to the citizens of Novi.”

Sergeant Zinser began his career with the Novi Police Department in 1998 after serving for seven years with the Mackinac Island Police where he attained the rank of Lieutenant. He graduated from Ferris State University with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. During his time with the Novi Police Department, Sergeant Zinser has held numerous assignments, including serving as a Field Training Officer and Range Instructor. He is currently working toward a master’s degree in Technology Studies at Eastern Michigan University with a concentration in Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
