Build n Break Family Activity Center Opens in Novi
Build n Break, located in the Main Street Atrium building, strives to be a fun and educational place for children of all ages.
Tired of going to frantic childrens' birthday parties with bad food, Jeevagan Babu of Canton and Shobana Manoharan of Novi decided to open a fun and educational place in Novi to give children and their parents another option for entertainment.
Babu, the father of 3- and 8-year-old boys, partnered with Manoharan, the mother of a 10-year-old son, to came up with the idea for Build n Break—a place where children and families can go to play with speciality toys and activities designed to entertain and teach.
The 2,300-square-foot business is located in the Main Street Atrium, Suite 305A at 43155 Main St. in Novi and opened on July 29.
Babu said his goal is "to bring families together to learn and be creative instead of kids playing video games all the time."
Build n Break has several rooms with various activities, including wooden blocks and electronic circuit boards. There is one room full of large foam blocks to build or jump around in, and another room has a screen where up to 20 people can watch 3-D movies.
Manoharan had seen some of the "play and learn" concepts at a museum in California and thought they would be perfect for their new business.
Babu said all of the activities "appeal to children as young as 5 years old and some of them are for ages up to 108!"
Children can come and play for an hour at a time, and the business has already begun booking birthday parties. The business can provide pizza for parties, but party hosts are welcome to bring their own food. Babu said they want a place where party goers can bring in any kind of food that they would like.
Many of the activities that are available at Build n Break can be purchased in its gift shop, and Babu said they plan to add more activities in the coming months.
The most convenient way to get to Build n Break is through the main south entrance of the Main Street Atrium building. Babu said he likes the location because there is covered and underground parking nearby, making it easier for people to come and play when the weather gets colder or more challenging.
Although both Babu and Manoharan have demanding jobs in the information technology field, they plan to be around their new business as much as possible to get customer feedback and make improvements.
Build n Break is open Monday-Friday 10 a.m. - 9 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.
