Enter to Win a Ticket to the Coney Bus Tour Saturday

We have some seats on the tour of Metro Detroit Coney Island Restaurants to give away. The contest closes at noon Friday, May 11, so enter now!

What's your favorite coney island restaurant? Tell us below in comments and you could win a ticket to a coney island bus tour Saturday, May 12.

You can join authors of the new book Coney Detroit — Joe Grimm of Bloomfield Township and Katherine Yung of Brighton — on a bus tour by D:Hive Detroit of Metro Detroit for a tasting of their favorite coney island hot dogs. Patch is also sponsoring the tour. The tour runs 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday and includes samplings of coneys at the restaurants where the bus stops.

The tour will visit some coney local treasures – including a stop at Dearborn restaurant Joe's Top Dog Coney Island – home of the Jim Padilla Special, named for the former Ford Motor Co. president. Also included is a stop at a Greek coney classic: Athens Coney Island in Royal Oak. You can purchase tickets to the tour through D:Hive Detroit.

Leave your comment below telling us your favorite coney island restaurant, and we'll pick four (4) winners at random. Each winner will receive one (1) ticket to Saturday's tour. Entries must be recieved by noon Friday, May 11.

Every contest has rules and here are ours:

  • Open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 and older.
  • To enter, submit your comment below telling what's your favorite coney island restaurant.
  • All entries must be received by noon ET May 11.
  • You may enter only once.
  • Four (4) winners total will be selected in a random drawing.
  • Winners will be notified Friday, May 11, via the email address they used to register.
  • Winners will receive one ticket to the 10 a.m.-2 p.m. May 12 coney tour put on by D:Hive Detroit and Wayne State University Press, valued at $35 per ticket.
  • No contest would be complete without official rules. Check them out here

Learn more about the book and the tour here. You can purchase tickets to the tour through D:Hive Detroit.

The book, Coney Detroit, will also be for sale on the tour, and proceeds from the sale of the book will go toward Gleaners Community Food Bank.

I'm not picking the winners, but I have to say, this is a pretty convincing argument to send Lauren on the Coney Tour.

nothing beats Lipuma's in Rochester!!! If you don't like a coney, there are numerous other "dog" options, the best servers behind a grill, and scenic seating on Paint Creek

Lafayette and leo's are great - when I moved here from Virginia did not think I would find a place that would be better than our local chain in Va called "the daug house" but to my surprise I did!

LAFAYETTE is the best. I am 67 years old and LAFAYETTE is truly a learning experience....especially if you go there around midnight. The first time I went there, I was dating a guy and he dared me that I could not eat a LAFAYETTE without getting it on my face or spilling it on the plate. I WON!!!! I loved Nemo when he made a quarter stay on his forhead and then would give me a hug. I doesn't matter if you are rich, poor, government official or bum EVERYONE has fun at LAFAYETTE. I raised 5 children and ALL of them know: "If you go to LAFAYETTE you better bring Mom back one (or two).

If you are going to do Coney - you need to do Leo's. It is a family affair - our kids are now 22 and 24 and are still die hard fans.

Lafayette, it's a tradition. However , American and Lafayette now have the same dogs, just different in the mixture. It comes down to the chili sauce you like.

Lafayette Coney Island is my favorite. I remember a good friend had her 85 Birthday Party at the Coney Island. It was purchased by her daughter and the Coney Island was closed for the evening, a Sunday. It was a suprise birthday Party for her and about fifty people showed up.the Coneys are the greatest.

I know the Detroit battle, but for me, the best is Bill's in Ypsilanti. Root beer is cold, dogs are good, chili is homemade and onions are spicy.

Leo's of Lake Orion, newly remodeled, clean, great food and service ... the best is that it is walking distance from our home and we can just get our daily walk while enjoy eating at one of our favorite eateries in Lake Orion.

Another Vote for Senate Coney Island, been going to SCI since the original was still on Michigan Avenue near Martin. Hometown local Dave's Coney at Bogie Lake Rd gets my second place vote and Lipumas gets a very well deserved "Honorable Mention" :-)
