Girls on the Run Program Returns to Novi This September
Girls in grades 3-6 must sign up to participate by Sept. 10.
The Novi Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Department, in partnership with the Plymouth YMCA, is excited to announce another season of Girls on the Run beginning the week of Sept. 17.
Girls on the Run is a life-changing, experiential learning program for girls ages 8 to 13. The program combines training for a 3.1 mile run with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts. Registration includes a t-shirt, water bottle, daily snacks, and entry into a 5K race on Sunday, Nov. 18. Teams are forming for 3rd and 4th grade girls at Orchard Hills, Novi Woods, Deerfield, Village Oaks, and Parkview elementary schools. A team is also forming at Novi Meadows for 5th and 6th grade girls.
Volunteer coaches are needed. Coaches do not have to be runners themselves, just dedicated individuals willing to encourage the girls and work with them to achieve their goals. A training session is provided for coaches, and a supply box is provided for each program site. Practice takes place after school two days a week, for an hour and a half, for 10 weeks.
The $115 registration fee may be paid at the Novi Civic Center at 45175 W. 10 Mile Road. Or you register online at cityofnovi.org and receive a $5 discount. The deadline to register is Monday, Sept. 10.
For questions or to find out how you can become a coach, contact Recreation Supervisor Greg Morris at 248-735-5646 or gmorris@cityofnovi.org.
