In Brief: Housing Development, Construction Projects Approved

Here's a roundup of items that were passed by the Novi City Council Monday night.

The Novi City Council gave its final approval of a housing development on the corner of Beck and 10 Mile Roads at its meeting Monday night.

After spending a couple of meetings discussing the rezoning of the area, the council approved the development of 38 houses on 24 acres of land. The council approved the rezoning to allow the development to have smaller and narrower lots, and slightly higher density, than was permitted in its previous zoning.

The development must begin within two years or the rezoning becomes void.

Two Roads to Be Rehabilitated

Construction will begin to repair the following two road segments this fall:

  • Wixom Road from Island Lake Drive to Novi city limits
  • 11 Mile Road near Meadowbrook Road

The roads are receiving maintenance as part of Novi's Capital Preventative Maintenance Program. City Council approved a contract of $159,869 for the construction to Cadillac Asphalt, the low bidder. Construction is expected to be completed during the season.

Parking Lot Improvements

City Council also approved a $818,066 contract with Nargle Paving Company, the low bidder, to improve several parking lots and access drives in the city. The parking lots and their costs are as follows:

Construction is scheduled to begin in September and be completed during this construction season. Novi plans to improve five more parking lots in the next fiscal year.

What about 10 mile Rd near Haggerty? Wixom Rd is perfectly fine. I am afraid tax money is wasted on perfectly fine roads while some roads requiring urgent repairs are ignored. And why is 11 mile Rd scheduled to be repaired only at the Meadowbrook Rd? The whole section between Meadowbrook and Town Center Dr is HORRIBLE.
