Hundreds of fans came out to AT&T in Novi Wednesday to meet Olympic Gold Medal Gymnast Jordyn Wieber. Wieber, a Michigan native, spent two hours in Novi greeting fans, signing autographs and posing for photos.

Novi Patch sat down with Wieber before the event began, and talked to her about life after the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Wieber, who is from DeWitt, arrived in Michigan last Thursday and said she is planning on relaxing a little before leaving Tuesday to begin rehearsals for the USA Gymnastics Tour of Champions, which will tour for three months and appear at more than 40 venues. The tour will be in Detroit on Nov. 3.

She said life after the Olympics, where she won a gold medal with the U.S. women's gymnastics team, has been pretty busy.

Wieber did not have her gold medal with her in Novi, which she said she usually keeps hidden in her house in fear of it being stolen. But said she will take it out and put it on display if they have visitors over.

She's been trying to spend some time with family and friends and has been back in the gym a couple of times. Yet, she still has a busy schedule ahead. Wednesday night she will throw out the pitch for the Detroit Tigers, and she'll join her team on Sept. 6 to present at the MTV Video Music Awards.

“I’ve gotten to do a lot of cool things,” Wieber said.

And meeting her supporters, young and old, has been one of them.

“Being here and meeting my fans is a lot of fun,” she said.

Dozens of young girls came out Wednesday to get a chance to meet their role model.

Sisters Morgan and Parker Sparrow were first in line Wednesday morning to meet Wieber. And when they did, it brought 13-year-old Morgan to tears.

"I'm speechless," Morgan said. "She's just very strong and she inspires me."

Eleven-year-old Victoria Nigoghosian, her sister and their friends were all bouncing with excitement while waiting to meet Wieber.

"I wanted to explode!" Victoria said.

Wieber said she loves having young girls look up to her.

“If you have a dream or a goal, just keep working hard. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication, but it pays off,” she said.
