Letter to the Editor: Thank You Friends of the Novi Public Library!
The Novi Public Library says thanks to its supporters.
Ever since there has been a Novi Public Library, there has been a Friends organization lending support and promoting the welfare of the Library. The Novi Public Library sincerely thanks the Friends for their ongoing support and the generous donations for the 2012-2013 fiscal year, including funding for the 2012 Youth and Adult Summer Reading Programs; Community Reads Program featuring a Nov. 14, 2012 visit from Picking Cotton: Our Memoir of Injustice and Redemption co-author, Jennifer Thompson-Cannino; Battle of the Books program; Morning Arts programs; an e-reader/tablet device; Novi Newbie bags and bibs; marketing of youth programs and resources, including early learning materials; replacement toys for the youth area; and staff in-service activities. These donations total over $10,000 and help the Novi Public Library provide the resources and programs to support the educational, cultural, informational and recreational needs of its diverse community, without impacting the taxpayers of the Novi Community.
Besides annual donations to the Library, the Friends also sponsor adult programs, annual author luncheons, scholarships, the Book Nook book sales, fundraisers, and the Detroit Free Press Gift of Reading program. Novi Public Library Director Julie Farkas states, “We cannot thank the Friends organization enough. Our Library is a very special place with programs, technology, and resources that focus on the needs of our community. We could not do this without the Friends of the Novi Public Library.”
