Novi Mayor Cuts Ribbon for New Cutlery Store

Novi's CUTCO cutlery store is the sixth location in the U.S. and the second in Michigan.

CUTCO, a new cutlery store in Novi, celebrated its opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday at its 43215 Grand River Ave. location.

Novi Mayor Bob Gatt and Ken Coker, the store's general manager, cut the ribbon together with over-sized ceremonial scissors. Kitchen cutlery manufacturer CUTCO Cutlery has sold its products primarily through a national network of college students who sell through in-home personal demonstrations.

"A big purpose of the store is service," Coker said.

"Cutco has the best knives around. I've had mine since 1962 and are as good as the day I received them. They are guaranteed for life. Period. It is a wonderful company," she said.

The store had several grand opening events -- on April 9, 10 and 11 -- and ended with a final event Tuesday where guests were served wine and hors d'oeuvres.

Novi City officials and Novi Chamber of Commerce members attended the ribbon cutting along with CUTCO customers.

"We have over 100,000 customers in the Novi area," Coker said. "And over 400,000 in metro Detroit."

He said Novi's CUTCO store is one of six stores in the country and the second in Michigan, the other of which is in Okemos near Lansing.

The store doesn't only carry kitchen knives. There are other items including Temp-tations by Tara bake ware, KA-BAR products and even jams and preserves.

"There's always something to snack on when you're here," Coker said.

CUTCO customers can also get free gift wrapping and select gift preferences for wedding registries.
