Updated: About 20 Percent of Voters Cast Ballots in Novi

Few Democratic ballots have been requested.

5 p.m.

Traffic has been slow today at precincts 1 and 2 at Meadowbrook Congregational Church, said Precinct Chairman Mike Longo.

He estimates a turnout of approximately 20 percent of voters, which he said is actually a little high for a presidential primary race in Michigan.

So far approximately 230 ballots have been cast at precinct two, and just three or four of those have been Democratic, Longo said.

He expects more people to come in after work this evening and a final rush just before polls close at 8 p.m.

11:30 a.m.

Precinct 18 at the Novi Civic Center has had 113 voters turn out so far this morning, according to election worker Linda Byrnes.

She said there has been a steady trickle of voters all day with no big rushes. The turnout has been fairly typical of primary elections she has seen in the past, she said.

Novi City Clerk Maryanne Cornelius said she expects 15 percent-20 percent of voters to turn out for the primary election. More than 2,500 absentee ballots have been issued, and more than 70 percent of them have already been turned in, she said.

Absentee ballots will be counted on the night of the elections along with the in-person votes. Be sure to check back with Patch for the results Tuesday night.
