Novi To Host Japanese Movie Night This August

Disney/Pixar's "UP" will be shown in Fuerst Park in Japanese with English subtitles.

 

Japanese Movie Night returns to Novi this summer with a screening of Disney/Pixar's UP in Fuerst Park on Aug. 11 at 8:30 p.m.

The movie will be shown in Japanese on a big outdoor screen and will begin at dusk. Families should bring their own blankets or lawn chairs, but refreshments will be provided.

In case of bad weather, the movie will be shown indoors at the nearby Novi Civic Center. You can call the weather hotline for updates at 248-347-0473.

Parking is available in the Novi High School lot on Taft Road.

The free screening is provided by the City of Novi in cooperation with Consulate General of Japan in Detroit

Novi is home to the largest Japanese population in Michigan, to the Ringo Kai Japanese School of Detroit, and to more than 60 Japanese-owned businesses.

The Consulate General of Japan in Detroit and the City of Novi have partnered on a number of community events including the folowing:

  • The international traveling exhibits of Kokeshi Dolls in 2007 and the Spirit of Budo in 2009
  • Shiga Japanese Confectionary Demonstration in 2010
  • New Blooms for Novi - Cherry blossom tree plantings in 2012
