Novi Walmart Looking to Hire 300 Employees

The Supercenter opens August 15.

The Novi Walmart is opening in just a couple of months, and the manager said he is looking to hire approximately 300 employees for the new Supercenter.

The store is hiring for all positions, including managerial, and the Hiring Center has been officially set up at 40400 Grand River Avenue, Suites A & B. The center is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Those interested in applying can stop by the center or apply online at Walmart.com.

The 150,000-square-foot Supercenter located in Novi Town Center will include a full grocery area with fresh meat and produce, dairy and a bakery. The store will also include general merchandise such as apparel, home goods, sporting goods, automotive, personal products and electronics.

Novi's Walmart is set to open August 15.

Setting up the new store

Walmart has already hired a manager for the new store in Novi: Aaron Quimby.

Quimby, 30, has been working for Walmart for 12 years. He began as an unloader at the Coldwater store in 2000, working his way up the ranks to become store manager in Muskegon in 2009. He has his bachelor’s in management and economics from Hope College.

Quimby is originally from the west side of the state, but said he is getting familiar with the Novi area after moving here two weeks ago. He has met with several business owners and city government officials.

"People seem awesome around here. It's been a pleasure to talk to them - they've been friendly and inviting and willing to help me out with whatever I need," Quimby said.

Quimby said the existing businesses in Novi Town Center and Walmart will be able to benefit from each other and that he is excited to build a long-term relationship with the city.

"From what I'm hearing from talking to everyone around town, it's going to be a really good fit. I'm excited I came over here to open a new store, and from everyone I've been talking to, they're excited to have us come in," he said.

Who needs Wal-mart - all they do is put other little businesses out of business. I NEVER shop there.

Did you know wal-mart was once a little business?

With that said, I try to avoid shopping at Wal-Mart as much as possible too. Wal-Mart is a driver of one of the big problems in this country... people want stuff CHEAP. They don't care where it's built, or how it's built... they want it CHEAP. And Wal-Mart is an enabler of this driving force of a bunch of Americans.

I don't blame Wal-Mart, they have a successful business - that is the American dream. I blame my fellow Americans for continuously buying Chinese made products while our fellow Americans are hurting or unemployed.

I buy most items on Amazon - because I can read reviews on the product before I buy it. I am careful with what I buy. I want stuff made in the USA. I want stuff that is built to last. I am willing to pay more for a better product that I can hand down to my children when I'm done with it.

Now if we are talking paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, some groceries, etc. I can see no reason that anyone in Michigan would shop at Wal-Mart if they have a Meijer nearby.... a Michigan born business.

John stop hating! And get with the program. The "little businesses are suffering any way. They can't keep up with the new technology and they sure don't have the volume or the pricing. Those Mom & Pop stores are a thing of the past. They charge way to much and jack the price up so high no one shops like that anymore. We are all out here looking for a good price, being able to get what we want when we want it. Also having a website we can purchase from. I could go on but I will close with, again stop hating!

Roy, I agree that we should buy USA products when possible; we are caught in a vicious cycle of poverty. When one is battling poverty, the luxury of having choice is dissolved. Unfortunately, with the downturn of the economy, American greed, and the disappearing middle class many of us do not have a choice, but to give in to the cheap option. As buying cheap may be the only way to afford a roof over our heads or food on the table. Until we solve these root problems and make USA employment opportunities a priority, will Americans have the option to choose USA made products once again. This begins with the greedy corporations priding themselves on being “global” purveyors. How can you claim to have American pride if you are robbing Americans of jobs by selling out and employing oversees at slave wages? Not to mention corporate hoarders are also employing Americans at slave wages, in their own country. When will Americans get fed up and demand change and hold those with money accountable for the state of the American economic crisis. As we know money is power and that is where the fate of this country lies. A scary thought knowing greed is at the foundation.

I agree with John. I think if you spend more money on something well built, it's worth it. And wal mart, as my boyfriend puts it is the evil face of consumerism. And they do close small businesses. It's sad really, I like small towns with independent shops, and you see that less and less.
