Talk About Town: Will You Vote in the Special Election?

The special primary election to fill Thaddeus McCotter's former seat in the U.S. House of Representatives is Wednesday, and the entire process has left many voters confused and angry.
After McCotter left the office early in July, the state must now hold an election to fill his seat until the end of his term in December. Meanwhile, the seat will have been vacant for four months.
Since McCotter did not announce his resignation in time to add the vote to fill the rest of his term to the August primary ballot, the special primary had to be scheduled.
The special election is estimated to cost the state $650,000; for Novi, the cost is $30,000.
One Democrat is running and five Republicans are running for the 11th District. In the primary, voters will narrow down the field of Republicans to one. Then voters will pick the winner on the Nov. 6 election.
Voters will also pick a candidate on Nov. 6 to serve the term from January 2013 to December 2014.
Got all that? According to Novi City Clerk Maryanne Cornelius, many people are still confused. Plus, she estimates no more than 12 percent of voters will cast their ballot Tuesday.

I will vote for Kerry Bentivolio. He served our country in Vietnam. He served our children as a teacher. He believes we have been Taxed Enough Already. He is the only person in this contest who decided he wanted to serve us from the beginning. He went out and got the signatures, and prepared for the race. That is how it is supposed to be done. No special election. No write in candicacy. Get your signatures, and prepare for the campaign. The old fashioned way. Earn it.
