 In this presentation\, you receive a totally different perspective on ho
 w American women in Detroit took charge of their destiny to build intern
 ational careers in the fine arts. Revealed are the obstacles\, courage a
 nd humor required to gain financial independence and become part of the 
 mainstream business world even as recently as the 1990s.Our speaker is S
 uzanne Bilek\, a native Detroiter who specializes in the art history of 
 urban Detroit. She is a contributor to Hour Detroit magazine and author 
 of the new book Great Female Artists of Detroit. Ms. Bilek holds a Bache
 lor of Arts degree in political science and has a career in the art busi
 ness including positions as agent for fine and commercial artists\, mark
 eting manager\, and craftswoman. Bilek is also a curatorial assistant at
  the Detroit Historical Museum.
