Meet Novi's New Face in Business Development

Here are five details you may not know about Lauren Royston, Novi's new economic development director.

Lauren Royston has been on the job as Novi's new economic development director for about a month.

Before coming to Novi, Royston was already deep in the business world as the business services manager for the State of Michigan Workforce Development Agency. She said she wants to continue to bring talent to Novi and work to keep businesses in the city. 

"I'll work on providing consultation and resources to our businesses," she said. "We’re really going to focus on retention."

Royston said she's glad Novi is not a completely built out community and there is room for growth. Learn more about Royston through these five tidbits about her.

1. Royston lives in Novi

She said she has lived in Novi for three years and absolutely loves this community. 

"Even though I’m familiar with Novi because I am a resident, starting on day one I was taken on a tour of the city. There were a lot of areas of the city that I didn’t know existed," she said.

2. Royston has big shoes to fill

She replaced Ara Topouzian, who left Novi to work with Troy's Chamber of Commerce board of directors. 

3. Royston's background

She is a graduate of Wayne State University with a Masters of Public Administration.

4.  Royston wants to bring more than retail to Novi

She said there are other areas to focus on in Novi other than retail businesses.

"It’s a strong business community outside of the retail service," she said about Novi.
