Welcome to My Musical Journey

Local Armenian musician Ara Topouzian introduces his new blog on world music.

Welcome to my first blog. For those of you who do not know me, which may be most of you...my name is Ara Topouzian, and amongst many things, I am a musician. Specifically, I would be considered a world musician, one who performs music from around the globe. For over twenty years, I have played traditional Armenian and Middle Eastern folk music.

As an Armenian-American, I began listening to Armenian folk music as a child at various dances, weddings and church bazaars. I used to marvel at the musicians on stage that possessed the ability to play such a variety of non-stop music without reading any sheet music. Fast forward over the years, I would travel to the other states where I would see and experience a diverse group of musicians. As most of these musicians had not recorded albums in many years, I would tape record these live events in order for me to listen and learn from them.

Throughout these many years, I have had the good fortune to have performed a variety of unique and exciting gigs, along with performing with a diverse group of musical artists that crossed many genres of music. Every year seems to bring new opportunities in music. It is my hope to share some of those stories and thoughts on world music in this blog.

Let's go on this musical journey together.....
