The project received the President's Award.

Recently the Baseline project was recognized by Keep Michigan Beautiful (KMB).
KMB works as part of a national organization to identify significant green space installations throughout the state. Keep Michigan Beautiful bestowed the Novi Baseline Project its highest recognition: the President's Award.

The Baseline Project, located in Novi’s ITC Sports Park, at 8 Mile and Napier
Roads, was completed in September 2011. The Novi Historical Commission
worked on this project for over eight years, with the assistance of individuals,
organizations and significant funding from the Americana Foundation.

The obelisk and paver area commemorate the history of Novi, depicting
farm and fruit growing origins, the railroad and other early modes of
transportation essential to Novi’s economy. There is also a garden and seating
area which invite visitors to enjoy the area.

The marker itself is part of a broader art installation located in several
communities along Eight Mile Road, which is known as the Michigan Baseline. The obelisk project was developed by David Barr, a Novi resident and
internationally known artist.
