Cancer Survivors to be Honored at This Weekend's Relay for Life

Novi and Northville will come together to fight cancer at Relay for Life.

The fight against cancer is ongoing. Everyone knows someone affected by cancer, whether it's themselves, family, or friends.

The Northville/Novi community Relay for Life is this Saturday and Sunday in downtown Northville. The overnight event will not only help raise funds to fight cancer but will also honor those who were lost to the disease and celebrate those who have fought and won or are currently fighting.

Relay for Life will honor cancer survivors at a special ceremony that will open the event 10 a.m. Saturday at Ford Field in downtown Northville.

There will be a special lap around the track with other survivors, gift bags, food, fun, support and inspiration.

According to Relay for Life, one in three people in the U.S. will be told, “You have cancer.” Volunteers from the Novi and Northville communities are helping in the fight to make sure that stops happening.

It is estimated that over 18,000 residents in Wayne and Oakland counties will be diagnosed. Out of that number, over 6,000 are estimated to not make it to their next birthday, according to Relay for Life.

For more information, contact Rachel Leas, the Relay Community Representative at 248-663-3436 or rachel.leas@cancer.org. Organizers of Relay for Life are looking for anyone who has won the fight or who are still fighting to join in the special ceremony.

This year's Relay for Life will 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. at Ford Field in downtown Northville.

Several teams from the community will be walking and raising money at Relay for Life this weekend. Are you on a team? Tell us in the comments.
