Delays Expected on Haggerty During Resurfacing Project

The Road Commission for Oakland County said the project along the border of Farmington Hills and Novi will start July 29 and be completed by November 15.

Haggerty Road will remain open during a resurfacing project that starts July 29 along the border of Farmington Hills and Novi, but there will be traffic delays.

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) said the project will start July 29 and end November 15.

Haggerty Road, from 9 Mile Road to just north of Village Wood Drive, will be affected.

"The project will involve the removal of the top layer of the existing road, repair of the existing concrete, drainage improvements and replacement of concrete curbs and gutters where needed," a press release from the RCOC states. "Two inches of asphalt will then be applied to the road surface. A center left-turn lane will be added to the half-mile section of Haggerty where it doesn’t currently exist."

In addition, all pedestrian crosswalks will be upgraded to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and traffic signals will be upgraded. The signal work will be completed by February 2014, according to the RCOC.

"The project is expected to cost approximately $1.1 million," Craig Bryson said in the release. "Eighty percent of the cost will be covered through a Michigan Transportation Economic Development Fund (TEDF) grant. The Road Commission and Mahle Industries Inc. will share the remainder of the cost. The work will be performed by Dan’s Excavating of Shelby Twp."
