Light Up the Night Scheduled for Nov. 30

Celebrate the holidays with a tree lighting, visit from Santa, crafts and other activities.

Novi's holiday event, Light Up the Night, will be held Friday, Nov. 30 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Novi Civic Center.

The event, held indoors and out, offers seasonal fun for everyone. Mayor Bob Gatt and a special visitor from the North Pole will set the festive tone by lighting the holiday tree at 6:45 p.m. Additional highlights include a craft show, Santa visits (professional photos are $5 each), children’s activities, marshmallow roasting, hockey skills competition, live reindeer, miniature train rides and free food samples from several local restaurants.

Festive hay wagons will shuttle people to and from the Novi Public Library to enjoy face painting and Tom Plunkard the Magician performances, sponsored by the Berenguer Family, starting at 7:30 p.m.

“Light Up the Night is a great way for the community to come together and experience the spirit of the holidays in Novi. This event gives us all the opportunity to sing, laugh and enjoy the wonders of the season,” said Jason Mangum, director of Novi Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services.

A variety of live performances will feature Musikgarten & Me, the Novi Chorlaires, and an interactive Nutcracker performance.

New for 2012 is a House Decorating Contest with the winner announced at Light Up the Night. To enter, send photos of outdoor house decorations to Greg Morris, Recreation Supervisor at gmorris@cityofnovi.org by Nov. 26.

Artists and crafters interested in participating in the Light Up the Night craft show may visit cityofnovi.org and complete the application by Wednesday, Nov. 14.
