Join the Novi Public Library in thanking its support organization this October.

—Submitted by the Novi Public Library

Ever since there has been a Novi Public Library, there has been a Friends organization lending support and promoting the welfare of the library. Join the library in celebrating National Friends of Libraries Week October 21-27 by sincerely thanking the Friends of the Novi Public Library organization for its more than 50 years of support and advocacy.

During the month of October, the public is invited to stop by the library’s first floor lobby to view the display featuring the Friends to learn more about their mission, programs, and what they “geek”.

During the 2012-2013 fiscal year alone, the Friends of the Novi Public Library generously sponsored the Summer Reading (Youth & Adults), Battle of the Books, Community Read, Morning Arts, and Staff In-Service Programs, as well as funding a new eReader/tablet device, replacement toys in Youth Area, bookmarks/flyers/brochures for Youth Programs & Resources, and Novi Newbie bags & bibs.

Experience the value of the Friends by attending one of their musical, cultural or educational programs. The Friends are a new sponsor of the Listen @ The Library Concert series of free family concerts by internationally acclaimed artists. The first concert is Oct. 28, featuring the sounds of Classical Flute, followed by the Linden String Quartet concert on Nov. 11 and the Piano Showcase concert on Dec. 16.

The Friends are also hosting Auctions 101: What You Need to Know to Enjoy Live Auctions on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. This program features Janet Cashin, a 20-year veteran of live auctions and estate sales, sharing her expertise and inviting the audience to use her “mock moolah” to bid on a selection of typical auction items. Register now on the library website (novilibibrary.org) or by calling the Library at (248) 349-0720.

As fundraisers for the library, the Friends' activities have raised over $14,000 in recent years. The Friends' major fundraiser is the library's ongoing used book sale in the library’s Book Nook. In addition, the Friends are hosting the Fall Bigger and Better Book Sale on Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., providing an opportunity to shop for that perfect holiday present from hundreds of books.

Want to be part of a valuable organization that directly supports the community? The Friends of the Novi Public Library are actively seeking volunteers and members to continue supporting the Library.
