Novi Ice Arena to Host Ice Dancing Show

The exhibition is free and open to the public.

The Novi Ice Arena will host Ice Dance Exhibition on Friday, March 1 from 4:30-5:30 p.m.  World-renowned ice dancing coach Igor Shpilband, who brought his expertise and ice dancing teams from all over the globe to train at the facility in June of 2012, will present ice dancing pairs representing eight different countries at the event, which is free and open to the public.

The ice dancing teams are currently preparing for the 2013 ISU World Figure Skating Championships March 10-17 in London, Ontario, Canada. The first five teams listed below train part or full-time at Novi Ice Arena with coach Igor Shpilband.

Madison Chock/Evan Bates - United States

  • 2nd place at the 2013 National Championships
  • 3rd place at the 2013 Four Continents Championship
  • Chock placed 1st at Junior Nationals, the Junior Grand Prix final and Junior Worlds during the 2008-09 season with former partner Greg Zuerlein.
  • Bates was born and raised in Ann Arbor, MI and represents the Ann Arbor Figure Skating Club. He is currently enrolled at the University of Michigan.
  • With former partner Emily Samuelson, Bates placed 2nd at the 2009 National Championships and 11th at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

Anna Cappellini/Luca Lanotte - Italy

  • 3rd place at the 2013 European Championships
  • 2012 Italian National Champions
  • Placed 12th at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics

Ekaterina Riazanova/Ilia Tkachenko - Russia

  • Three-time Russian National medalists
  • 2013 bronze medalists at Skate Canada and Trophee Eric Bompard
  • 4th place at the 2013 European Championships

Isabella Tobias/Deividas Stagniunas - Lithuania

  • 2010-11 Lithuanian National Champions
  • 3rd place at Skate America and 5th place at the Cup of Russia in 2010-11

Justyna Plutowska/Peter Gerber - Poland

  • First season at the Senior level
  • Placed second at the 2012-13 Polish National Championships

Pernelle Carron/Lloyd Jones - France

  • 4-time French National Medalists
  • 1st place at the 2012 NRW Trophy in Germany

Siobhan Heekin-Canedy/Dmitri Dun - Ukraine

  • Ukrainian National Champions the past two seasons
  • 1st place at the 2012 Nestle Cup

Cathy Reed/Chris Reed - Japan

  • Brother and sister team, born in Kalamazoo, MI
  • 5-Time Japanese National Champions
