Novi Middle School Students Win Larson Jewelry Design Contest

The students' drawings will be made into jewelry and auctioned off to charity.

Three students will see their designs for one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces be created by Brian Larson of in Novi.

For the past decade, Larson has been holding a jewelry design contest and making the top submissions come to life.

"It's just an idea I had. I wanted to be able to involve and give back to the community, " he said.

This year, Larson received more than 100 drawings. The winners are as follows:

  • Sruti Ganesh, eighth grade
  • Annie Fischer, seventh grade
  • Kiersten George, eighth grade

Ganesh and Fischer's pieces have already been crafted and are on silent auction at the jewelry store until closing on Christmas Eve. All the money raised from the auction will go to the Novi Goodfellows.

George's design will be made into a piece of jewelry later and will be auctioned off at the Novi Educational Foundation's "Green Gala" in March.

Submissions are due on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving every year, and anybody can drop off a drawing.

Larson said he usually picks designs that he think will have a broad appeal to the public, thus encouraging more people to bid on the pieces and raise more money for the non-profit organizations.
