'Beehive' Creates a Buzz at Andiamo Novi

Happenstance Productions' newest show plays now through Oct. 9.

Beehive, the '60s Musical is an off-Broadway hit first created by Larry Gallagher in the 1980s. Today, you can see the show at Theatre.

The show is produced by Happenstance Productions, a full-service entertainment production company founded by local actor, director and designer Aaron T. Moore in 2010.

The show is all about the music of the '60s and the women who left their marks on a generation with their songs and iconic performance styles.

Beneath the fun and frivolity of big hairdos and bigger voices, the progression of the songs takes the audience swiftly through the '60s and how its popular songs reflected the changing social and political mores of the time.

The show follows the coming of age of women's music through songs by Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner and The Supremes, among others.

The show’s director, Christina Johnson, said the show has been a "smash hit" at Andiamo Novi Theatre.

"We are so pleased with the response we've gotten from the community and are already making plans to bring the show back in 2012," Johnson said. "This is a feel-great show, starring all local talent—we're thrilled to keep live theatre alive and local actors employed."

Beehive performances at Andiamo are Thursday and Friday evenings at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sundays at 5 p.m. Tickets cost from $15-20 per person or $49.95-$59.95 for a dinner and a show package for two. The shows runs through Oct. 9. For tickets, call the box office at 248-348-4448 or visit Andiamo Theatre's website.
