DIA Inside|Out: Novi Public Library's Seascape View

"Seascape: Sunset" is one of six pieces of art on display in Novi this summer.

The has an ocean view this summer.

A digital reproduction of Seascape: Sunset by Martin Johnson Heade is being displayed in the park in the library's courtyard until the end of summer.

It’s one of six pieces on display in Novi this summer as part of the Detroit Institute of Art’s Inside|Out program, which brings waterproof reproductions of masterpieces to the streets of metro Detroit communities.

Novi Patch is featuring all six of Novi’s pieces this week.

“Because large bodies of water are constantly moving, they are some of the most difficult subjects for artists to paint,” reads the placard next to Seascape: Sunset. “Martin Heade took up the challenge and skillfully captured the movement of swirling waves and flying spray in this image of the Rhode Island shore.”

The original painting is on display at the DIA.

Novi was one of 11 cities in metro Detroit chosen to display artwork. Read more about the program and see a map of the other paintings in Novi here.
