The Novi Emagine Theater is screening "One Soldier's Story," a documentary chronicling the story of Sgt. Michael Ingram, Jr., a native of Monroe who was killed in action on April 17, 2010, in Afghanistan.
The movie is the work of filmmaker Keith Famie and Visionalist Entertainment Productions, and makes a stop at the Novi Emagine Theater as part of the film premiere tour.
The story is told in large part by Sgt. Ingram’s father, Michael Ingram, Sr., and MSG Jeff Rector, U.S. Army Reserve Casualty Assistance Coordinator. Filmgoers will see Sgt. Ingram’s story, from his decision to join the Army, his sacrifice made for his country, and the honors he received when his remains were returned home.
The premiere also introduces audiences to Mikie’s Minutes, a charity created by the Ingram family in honor of their son. Mikie’s Minutes is a division of Others First, a 501c3 tax-deductible non-profit organization, and provides free calling cards to members of the U.S. armed forces, enabling them to call their families anytime, anywhere. Already in production, Special Forces delivered an initial batch of 12,000 minutes to U.S. Army soldiers serving in Afghanistan. The delivery of these cards was captured on film, and this footage is also included in the documentary.
Doors open for “One Soldier’s Story” premiere at 6:30 p.m. There is a $20 donation with all proceeds going to “Mikie’s Minutes.” The film also will be shown on WTVS-TV, Detroit Public Television, on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 2:30 p.m., the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
