Anytime Fitness Now Open in Novi

The gym opened in late December.

If you're still looking to get started on your New Year's resolution, Anytime Fitness has just opened in Novi and is accepting new members.

The gym opened in late December at 47980 Grand River Avenue across from Providence Park Hospital and is owned by David and Karla Michael of Hartland.

The fitness franchise has been around for 10 years and now has nearly 2,000 locations across the nation — all of which its members are welcome to use.

What's unique about the gym is that members get their own key to the door, so they can come and exercise any time they want on any day of the year. The gym is staffed and the doors are open during the day, but members can let themselves in at night.

Since the staff isn't always there, Anytime is equipped with a sophisticated security system, life alert necklaces for members to wear when working out alone, and a panic button.

The gym has cardio machines, weight machines, and free weights, as well as a room for fitness classes. Anytime also has two tanning rooms and private bathrooms with showers.

"Anytime Fitness tries to create an atmosphere that's comfortable because everyone's got their stereotypes about working out and thinking they don't know what they're doing and people are going to be looking at them," said Novi Anytime manager Patrick May. "Anytime tries to get those stereotypes out of people's heads and create a positive atmosphere, so every time they come into the gym they have a good experience."

All members are also offered to sign up for the Fit for Life program when they join the gym. In the program, members first meet with a trainer to go over base measurements, past exercise habits and future goals to customize a workout. Members then check in with the trainer periodically over the next 10 weeks to discuss and change their workout schedule.

"We want all of our members to reach the goals they envisioned when they came in the first time," May said. "Typically, we don't have thousands of members, so we really get to know our members on a personal level, which kind of sets us apart from the other fitness facilities."

May said the owners also plan to open an Anytime location in Northville in the future.
