The $11.5 million Hyatt Place Hotel is the first in Novi.

Novi Mayor Bob Gatt, city and county officials and hundreds of guests gathered at the Suburban Collection Showplace for the opening of the $11.5 million hotel.

Hyatt Place at the Suburban Collection Showplace is owned by Blair Bowman, who is also the owner of Suburban Collection Showplace.

"It's the only privately funded convention facility in Michigan," Gatt said. "And one of the few in the country."

City officials broke ground for the hotel last June. The completed hotel is a six story building with 126 guest rooms and is attached to Suburban Collection Showplace on the building's east side.

The hotel adds 20,000 square feet of space to the Diamond Center, including 9,260 square feet of meeting space. That translates to 10 additional meeting rooms. Other amenities include a 24-hour fitness center, 24/7 guest kitchen, Wi-Fi, interior pool and an exterior courtyard suitable for weddings and other social events.

The Hyatt Place Hotel will be open for guests starting Thursday.
