Sears Outlet to Open in Fountain Walk

The outlet will open in the former Great Indoors space in Novi this September.

A Sears Outlet store will open in in Novi in mid-September, according to Brandon Gartman, the divisional vice president for Sears Outlets.

A grand opening will be held in early October.

The outlet store will be located in the former location. The Great Indoors, which is owned by Sears, was closed this summer after the company decided to shut down all nine of its nationwide locations.

The Sears Outlet will sell refurbished and un-sold products from Sears stores including the following:

  • Appliances
  • Lawn and garden items
  • Treadmills
  • Mattresses
  • Apparel

"If you get a refrigerator to your home, and it has a dent it, and you're like, 'No, I don't want that,' then we get that, make sure it's still functional, clean it up, make sure it's repaired, and then we sell it at prices that range from 20-70 percent off of regular retail," Gartman said.

He said the store will be hiring approximately 25 associates. People interested in applying can visit the Careers page at Sears.com.

"We're excited to have an outlet store in that area. We have probably the closest one to that is in Livonia and we do very good business there so we're looking to keeping Sears in the Novi market just in a different format," Gartman said.

Finally, it's nice to see Novi reverting back to what it used to be when I was growing up with affordable, mainstream retailers filling the wealth of vacancies created by a Novi that thought they were immune to retail oversaturization. I'm sure some people aren't happy about "outlets" and Wal-Marts opening, but that is what will bring in today's shopper. With the amount of vacant retail and haphazard planning for 30 years, they ought to count themselves very lucky they didn't end up like the Summit Place region.
