Walmart Celebrates Grand Opening in Novi

is now open in Novi, and it will remain open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Supercenter was opened to customers just before 8 a.m. Wednesday morning. A grand opening ceremony, including a posting of the colors by the , a blessing and a ribbon cutting, made the opening official.

The 153,00 square-foot store was constructed in during the past year and is expected to .

The store includes a full line of groceries, apparel, accessories, a garden center, health and beauty aids, an electronics department, pharmacy and photo center.

Novi Mayor Bob Gatt welcomed the Supercenter to the area and wished them luck, calling the day a "momentous occasion."

He also spoke of how .

"[It's] a store that really has changed the appearance of the shopping center already," he said.

Gatt said he has seen people looking to shop at the store during the past few weeks.

"I can only imagine what this store is going to look like in the next couple of months as the holidays approach," he said.

Store manager Aaron Quimby thanked Novi for being so welcoming.

"We've started a relationship that's going to be ongoing and mutually beneficial," Quimby said.

Novi resident Jane Meredith was the first customer to arrive to the store — an hour and a half before it officially opened.

"I can't believe that we have this wonderful store," she said. "I think it's a wonderful asset."

She said she used to shop at the Walmart in Commerce and that she enjoys how kind all of the associates have been to her. She was also excited to meet Quimby and his parents before the opening ceremony.

Linda and Gerry Chantres were also some of the first shoppers in the store Wednesday morning. Linda Chantres said they, too, used to shop at the Walmart in Commerce, but she is excited that one opened in Novi closer to her work.

"Honestly, if you're smart, you shop at Walmart," she said.
