Novi Woman's New Veterinarian Practice Takes a Personal Approach

Dr. Charlotte Kim opens Five & Two Pet Clinic to give her small animal clients and their owners a real personal touch.

When veterinarian Charlotte Kim, of Novi, looked for a place to open up her first solo practice, she wanted to take "a more personalized approach to medicine."

After working for larger companies, she set up Five & Two Pet Clinic earlier this month at 2160 Walnut Lake Road in West Bloomfield. The building is near residential neighborhoods, so that some of her clients can walk their pets in for grooming or care.

"I think it's nice for one person to follow up," Kim said. "You get to know the client better, you know what their needs are."

The new clinic building was formerly a veterinary practice, so Kim has been able to take advantage of existing equipment. There is a surgical room for neutering and other procedures, and a groomer works on-site as well.

Kim, who graduated in 2008 from Michigan State University, said her love of animals goes back to her childhood in Korea. She was especially drawn to sick animals and wanting to make them better.

Because one bad veterinary experience can ruin future visits for an animal, Kim said she takes a "holistic approach". "We try to make it a little more like a home environment, with less stress," she added.

Five & Two Pet Clinic takes its name from the Biblical story of Jesus feeding crowds of people with five loaves of bread and two fishes. "I didn't have a lot to start," Kim explained. "I just brought what I had and God provided the rest."

The clinic takes only small animals: dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, rodents, ferrets and "pocket pets". For more information, call 248-855-1377 or visit the clinic's website, 52petclinic.com, and Facebook page, facebook.com/5and2petclinic.
