Novi Mayor Bob Gatt Endorses O’Connor for open Council Seat

NOVI, Mich. – June 1, 2013 – Novi Mayor Bob Gatt has announced his endorsement of Dennis (DOC) O’Connor to serve on the Novi City Council. O’Connor, a 22-year Novi resident, is seeking one of three, 4-year terms on the Novi City Council. Voters will be asked to elect three city council candidates on the November 5, 2013 general election ballot. O’Connor is the President of the Novi Board of Education. He is running for the city council seat vacated by Terry Margolis, who decided not to seek re-election. Gatt cites O’Connor’s deep commitment to the Novi Community, and his tireless dedication to promoting Novi’s values, as the reasons for his endorsement. “It’s time for Dennis O’Connor to expand his public service and become part of the Novi City Council,” Mayor Gatt said. “Novi is becoming one of the greatest cities in the entire state of Michigan. Dennis has skills, knowledge and ability to play an integral role in helping to make that happen. He deserves your vote for Novi City Council.” Mayor Gatt, who is seeking re-election for his second, 2-year term as Novi’s Mayor, added he’s excited that the City has an opportunity to leverage O’Connor’s knowledge of school district government. "The ongoing success of Novi Schools is a major reason why businesses and families are attracted to the great City of Novi,” Mayor Gatt said. “We need to keep that momentum going in Novi, and Dennis is an important part of that strategy. He would be a welcome addition to our City Council.” Mayor Gatt’s endorsement of O’Connor represents more than standard “political correctness” toward elected officials. Mayor Gatt recently named O’Connor his Campaign Manager, as part of his bid for re-election in November. “Dennis is a great promoter of Novi Schools and the City of Novi,” Mayor Gatt said. “I’m proud to have him lead my campaign staff. It’s all part of ‘keeping the momentum going,’ as Novi starts to rebound from a decade of slow economic growth in the state of Michigan.” O’Connor is excited about the opportunity to expand his knowledge and experience in public service. He is a long-time Novi community volunteer who has served many roles and participated on many board and committees over the years. “Novi voters deserve the type of independent, critical thinking that I bring to all Novi community issues,” O’Connor said. “I have an outstanding track-record as a good steward of our taxpayer dollars. I want to bring that same philosophy to the Novi City Council.” For more information about Dennis O’Connor’s candidacy, please visit his “Friends of Dennis O’Connor” website at dennisoconnor.org or email him at dennis@dennisoconnor.org.
