The driver of a vehicle was killed Saturday, after crashing into a camera pole on westbound I-96 near Wixom Road, according to news reports.

Michigan State Police told clickondetroit.com that a portion of the freeway was closed Saturday following the accident.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the driver was  taken for treatment by helicopter after they were ejected from a vehicle.

Car accidents were widespread across Metro Detroit Saturday, as snow squalls moved into the area around noon, causing slippery roads and whiteout conditions.
