13 Things About Novi Public Library's Summer Reading Program

From prizes to events, here's everything you need to know about the library's Summer Reading Program.

The ’s Summer Reading Program is back again this year. Here are 13 things you should know about it:

1. The program began June 20 and runs through Aug. 6, but it's not too late to sign up.

2. There’s a program for all ages: “Read to Me” for preschoolers, “One World, Many Stories” for kindergarten through Grade 4, “You Are Here” for Grades 5-12 and “Novel Destinations” for adults.

3. Participants track their reading hours online to win prizes.

4. Prizes include gift bags and gift cards to businesses such as Toys R Us, Panera and Starbucks.

5. Winners will be notified Aug. 8.

6. More than 1,100 people have already signed up this summer, which is 100 more than last year.

7. The program aims to make reading a fun and leisurely activity for all ages. “I think the real purpose is to motivate kids to read throughout the summer,” said Laura Liddicoat, communications specialist for the library.

8. As part of the program, many youth events are scheduled at the library throughout the summer, including story times, crafts, movies, interactive theater, games and music, puppet and magic shows.

9. There are several events for teens and tweens, as well, including a Thursday, a Super Smash Brothers tournament July 26 and a “World Fair Finale” on Aug. 2.

10. Adults can get in on the fun with events such as “Singing the Old Songs Again” on July 18 and a Harmony Town Barbershop performance Aug. 22.

12. More than 80 teens are volunteering to help with the reading program this summer.
