5 Things to Know Today: July 2, 2011

Gas prices continue to climb for the holiday weekend.

 

  1. The Weather – Today's forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 3-8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Otherwise, it will be mostly sunny with a high of 92. Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low of 66. 
  2. Gas Prices - The lowest reported gasoline price in the Novi area as of late Thursday is $3.79 at the on Haggerty Road near 8 Mile, according to DetroitGasPrices.com. 
  3. Farmers’ Market – New this year, the is held every Saturday from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Suburban Collection Showplace, featuring produce, honey, crafts, flowers and music.
  4. Open Skate Night – Every Friday and Saturday night, has open skate night from 8-9:50 p.m. Admission is $7 per person and skate rental is $3.
  5. Siren Testing – Today is the first Saturday of the month, which means Oakland County will be doing its routine testing of its severe weather warning siren at 1 p.m. If you hear that sound at any other time than during the test, seek shelter immediately - it means a tornado or severe storm with high winds has been spotted nearby.
