5 Things to Know Today: Oct. 3, 2011

City candidates will speak to retired residents tonight.

1. The weather

Today will be mostly sunny, with a high near 65, and wind gusts up to 28 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight will be partly cloudy, with calmer winds and a low of 44 degrees.

2. Gas prices

According to DetroitGasPrices.com, the lowest reported gasoline price in the Novi area as of Sunday night was $3.21 per gallon at the Speedway on Pontiac Trail and Beck Roads.

3. Candidate night

Novi's will be at from 7-9 p.m. today to speak to and take questions from Fox Run residents. Check back with Patch for information on all the candidates.

4. Baby sitter safety and CPR

Children age 9 and older can learn baby-sitting safety and business tips at a two-part class at the Media Center. Students can earn a two-year certification in CPR and a Babysitter Safety certification card. The sessions are from 5:30-7:30 tonight and Wednesday. Cost is $55 for residents and $60 for nonresidents, plus a $16 material fee due at the start of class.

5. Book discussion

Adults are invited to join a discussion about the book The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot at 7 tonight at the . The free discussion will be held in Board Room 202.
