Novi Named One of Top 10 Towns for Families in America

Novi was listed as one of the top 10 places for families to live in America in the August edition of Family Circle magazine, which is available now.

The magazine chose the communities based on their excellent schools, affordable family housing, green space, low crime rate, access to health care, financial stability and giving spirit.

Novi was also recognized for its cultural diversity and youth engagement.

“When choosing a place to live, people choose what is best for their family,” said Novi Mayor David B. Landry in a statement. “That includes great schools, affordable homes, safe neighborhoods, plenty of parkland, and economic opportunities. Combine that with an environment which is welcoming to all cultures and happens to be in a great location and you have Novi."

"It is a great honor to be recognized among the nation’s best and celebrate all our community members who truly give Novi its 'heart,'” he said in the statement.

The Family Circle article features a short interview with Novi residents Reeta and Abhinav Raina, who applaud Novi’s schools and diversity.

"For us, diversity is just as important as good schools, low crime and green space," said Reeta, 45, in the article.

"Novi is also a progressive, forward-thinking place," said Abhinav, 51, in the article.

To select the top 10, Family Circle worked with Onboard Informatics, a research firm that provides real estate and demographic data. The two compiled a list of 2,500 towns with populations of 15,000-150,000 people. They were then able to narrow down the list to 1,000 places based on the amount of households with a median income of $55,000-$95,000.

Family Circle then picked the top 10 from the highest rated towns based on its other criteria.

Novi was cited in the article as having a median income of $80,473 and a median home price of $160,542.

The city also received a 9 out of 10 for its Great Schools rating. The score was based on standardized test performance at all levels of education compared to other schools in Michigan. GreatSchools.net, a non-profit website dedicated to encouraging parental involvement in education, provided the ratings.
