Novi Senior Center Celebrates Fourth of July

Seniors wore their red, white and blue to enjoy a picnic lunch with live music.

The Novi Senior Center was bustling with patriotic pride Thursday as area seniors celebrated America's 235th birthday with a holiday-themed lunch and live entertainment.

The Stars and Stripes Forever Celebration was presented by the City of Novi in partnership with Trillium Home Care of Farmington Hills. The June 30 event was open to all area seniors.

Novi Senior Center Recreation Programmer Sandy Fisher was thrilled at the turnout – nearly every table was filled with local residents decked out in their best red, white and blue ensembles.

The attendees enjoyed a picnic-style lunch of hamburgers, corn on the cob and potato salad, followed by the quintessential American dessert, apple pie. After the meal, entertainment was provided by the Razz-Ma-Tazz Kitchen Band from the Burton Senior Center near Flint.

According to Jean Johnson, director of the Burton Center, the band is an important facet of their mission to perform outreach activities to benefit seniors throughout southeastern Michigan.
