The Wayne State University Division of Development and Alumni Affairs has announced the appointment of Terry Margolis as the associate vice president for individual giving and campaign director. She previously served as the director of Executive and Professional Development and Educational Outreach at WSU. Margolis will begin her new role on Feb. 4.
Margolis is a Novi resident and also serves on the Novi City Council.
“I am thrilled to welcome Terry, a professional of tremendous caliber and expertise, to the division’s leadership team,” said David Ripple, WSU vice president for Development and Alumni Affairs. “She will play an essential role as we prepare for our next comprehensive fundraising campaign, and her past experiences and success at Wayne State University will serve her well in this capacity.”
Margolis will provide vision, strategy and leadership for the major gift officers in the schools and colleges at Wayne State, working closely with the deans and directors. She also will manage all aspects of comprehensive campaign planning and implementation, including case statement development, campaign reporting and the monitoring of goals.
Margolis brings to the position a strong track record of success in marketing, strategic planning and professional development. As the director of Executive and Professional Development and Educational Outreach at Wayne State, she was responsible for the leadership of all off-campus degree and certificate programs, including credit and non-credit courses, executive education, leadership development programs and corporate training. She led the development and implementation of an extension enrollment strategy that resulted in an average 29 percent increase each year for the past five years. She also oversaw the creation of the university’s first on-site MBA program, and the implementation of a leadership program for the School of Medicine and the University Physicians Group.
Before joining Wayne State University, Margolis owned and operated her own consulting firm, providing human resources, customer service and technology consulting, and training solutions for businesses, schools and non-profit agencies. She is a city council member for the City of Novi, elected to two terms, during which she helped raise significant funding for the construction of a new city library. She also serves as a member of the Board of Visitors of the Irvin D. Reid Honors College at Wayne State.
Margolis is a graduate of Wayne State University, having earned a bachelor of science with distinction in psychology. In addition, she received a master of business administration with high distinction from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business.
