Weekend Countdown: For the Love of Birds

Start the first full weekend of 2012 with a blast of fresh air and a morning of bird census-taking.

Happy new year! We've made it through the holiday crunch, and we know you're probably looking forward to a quiet January weekend. With that in mind, we suggest:

New Year's Bird Count at Kensington

  • Where: Kensington Metropark
  • When: 8 a.m. Saturday
  • Pricing: Free with vehicle entry permit ($5 if you don't have an annual pass)
  • Why Go: Kensington Metropark is holding a New Year's Bird Count. Bring binoculars and dress for the weather so you can help take a census of the park's feathered friends. Experienced leaders will guide everyone around the park. Beginners are welcome as well. Preregistration is required.

Check back with us tomorrow for another weekend thing to do. We'll have indoor ideas as well!
