Could you tell us about your personal or professional background, relevant to this position?

My professional career has been spent in automotive and defense electronics manufacturing operations.  I have owned small businesses, and I have served on the Novi Planning Commission, including one term as chairperson.

How long have you lived in Novi?

18 years.

Do you have an activity relevant to this position or an endorsement which you would like readers to know of?
I am proud of the time I have spent volunteering in Novi. Because I have been part of so many different activities from River Day and scout projects, to calling bingo at the Senior Center, I have friends of all ages and from all parts of this community.  My website, www.voteforgwen.com has a list of my endorsements, including current council members and many Novi residents.

Could you summarize why you are running for city council?

I want to be part of City Council because I want to keep us moving toward a future of economic growth and excellent quality of life. I hope to support new small business and find ways to encourage redevelopment of empty storefronts and small factories.

What do you think are the greatest issues facing the city? How would you handle them?

We are fortunate that Novi has so many excellent features – low crime rate, moderate tax rate, access to major retailing and highways, excellent schools, beautiful neighborhoods, Oakland County’s third largest lake.

The three ideas I hope to focus on are:

  1. Support of small business
  2. Connect communities  - within Novi and our 4 different school districts, and outside our community by being represented when regional transportation issues are discussed.
  3. Protect our natural resources – in particular Walled Lake, but also by helping to integrate green spaces into our neighborhoods and business developments.
