The
Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA), in partnership
with the State of Michigan Department of Treasury, State Bar of Michigan
Taxation Section and Michigan Women’s Tax Association, will host the seventh
annual Michigan Tax Conference Tuesday,
November 5 through Wednesday,
November 6 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. The conference is
Michigan’s premier event for the latest on critical state tax issues affecting
businesses and individual taxpayers across Michigan.
The Michigan Tax Conference will feature national and local experts in the
accounting and legal professions discussing corporate officer liability,
property taxes, insights on emergency management, and a session for “new” SALT
professionals.

State Taxation (COST), Washington DC; Richard D. Pomp, Alva P. Loiselle Professor of Law, University of Connecticut School of Law, Hartford; and Patrick R. Van Tiflin, JD, Chair, State and Local Tax Practice Group, Honigman Miller
Schwartz & Cohn, LLP, Lansing, will discuss important updates in state
taxation and case law from across the country.
Day Two Highlights
The second day of the Michigan Tax Conference
will begin with “Insights from State
Treasurer Andy Dillon.” He will share
information critical to tax professionals, including how practitioners and
taxpayers fit into the Treasury’s new strategic plan.

“Where’s the Money?” features a trio of experts
who will discuss current and future issues surrounding revenue sources for
municipalities and how they are being challenged by property values,
unemployment and more. The panel will
include Terry F. Conley, CPA, Partner,
Grant Thornton, LLP, Southfield; Jeffrey
P. Guilfoyle, President, Citizens Research Council of Michigan, Livonia;
and Joseph L. Harris, CPA, former
Emergency Manager for Benton Harbor.
