Kids in Pajamas Help Oklahoma Tornado Victims

One Novi girl creates a unique way to raise money for those affected by the tornado.

A Novi elementary school student is raising money for the American Red Cross to help the victims of the tornado that hit Oklahoma last week.

Miranda Prieur, 9, in fourth grade at Parkview Elementary School, decided she would have a pajama day fundraiser at her school. Her goal is to raise $1,000 and she has until June 10 to raise the funds.

Students have to donate a minimum of $2 to wear pajamas to school on Friday.

“This was all her idea. She watched the news and thought about the children and how they perished,” said her mother, Kristen Prieur.

She said her daughter went door-to-door in her neighborhood to collect donations and assembled a group of her friends to help. They made flyers to help spread the word.

Prieur said Miranda met with the principal, who agreed to her plan, and presented the fundraiser idea to the entire school on Friday.

“The major thing is the pajama day, but she’s accepting any donations,” Prieur said.

She said her daughter has collected more than $200 so far.

If you’d like to donate, contact Prieur at 734-323-7854. If donors are interested in a tax deductible donation, they can make checks out to the American Red Cross.
