UPDATE: Novi Students Raise $800 for Typhoon, Tornado Victims

Students collect money for people in the Philippines and Illinois via the Red Cross.

Fourth grade students at Novi's Parkview Elementary School sought to help those affected by the recent typhoon in the Philippines and the tornado in Illinois

Principal Jenifer A. Michos said in an email to parents that the students raised $800 to benefit the victims through the Red Cross. The money was divided evenly between people in Illinois and the Philippines.

"Thank you 4th grade leaders for organizing this meaningful project and encouraging us to give back to others," she said in the email.

Students in Diane Garbooshian’s fourth grade class approached her with this different fund-raising idea last month. Students were asked to bring in donations and wear a "thinking hat" to symbolize their thoughts on how fortunate they are compared to the suffering of others.
