$25,000 in Eyeglasses Stolen From Novi Business

The following information was supplied by the Novi Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

More than $25,000 of items were stolen during a break-in at Town & Country Eyecare on Novi Road sometime during the night of Oct. 18-19, according to a Novi Police Department crime report.

An employee arrived at the business at 8 a.m. Oct. 19 and noticed the electricity was not working, the report said. Once inside, she noticed that entire displays of glasses were missing. About 40-50 pairs of Maui Jim sunglasses, 40-50 frames of designer eyeglasses and 5-6 pairs of Gucci frames were stolen, the report said. The estimated value is $25,000-$30,000.

Police also found that several cabinets and doors were disturbed in the business' office, the report said. An employee said a $500 laptop was missing, as well as the entire surveillance system unit, which was on top of a cabinet, the report said.

Police checked the perimeter of the store and found small pry marks on the door and frame, the report said. The officer also found the main electrical meter had been tampered with, the report said. Two lights inside the store that ran on back-up batteries also were removed, the report said.

After talking to employees, police suspect two men who were in the store earlier that day. Employees said the two men were not regular customers and had asked about the retail value of the Maui Jim sunglasses, as well as looked into the office area, the report said.
