$90,000 Diamond Shipment Stolen in Route to Novi Jewelry Manufacturer

The following information was supplied by the Novi Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

The co-owner of a Novi jewelry manufacturer and wholesale diamond provider reported $90,000 of diamonds were stolen from him while being shipped to the store, according to a police report. The owner was expecting a shipment of diamonds from California, and it arrived on May 8 at 9 a.m., the report said. The owner personally accepted the shipment form the delivery man, but after handling the box for a few minutes, he noticed the tape securing the box had been cut and compromised, the report said. The man opened the box and found it empty, the report said. The box was supposed to have a shipment of mixed and loose diamonds with a weight of 1,500 carats, the report said.

The owner gave police a print-out of the shipping history, the report said. There are no suspects in the case, and it is closed following any new developments. The owners said his insurance company will continue to investigate the matter, the report said.
