Crime Report: Phone Stolen from School Locker Room, Graffiti Found in Novi Town Center

The following information was supplied by the Novi Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

A woman reported that her son’s new iPhone and sneakers were stolen from the junior varsity football locker room at sometime Saturday, according to a police report. According to the report, the student used to play for the JV team but was moved to varsity, so he left his belongings in an unlocked locker in the JV locker room. The report said that the Canton High School football team used that locker room Saturday when the boy’s belongings went missing.

The mother said she attempted to call and send text messages to the phone, asking the subject to return the phone to the school’s office, the report said. After nobody responded or turned in the phone, she cut off its service, the report said. The mother said she is going to speak with the athletic director at Canton and be in touch with Catholic Central, the report said. The incident is now being forwarded to the Detective Bureau.

Graffiti found in Novi Town Center

Graffiti was found in three areas in on Monday, according to a police report. Black spray paint spelling out “CROOK” was found on a column near , on a sign in the Town Center and on a utility box in the north side of the parking lot near the former Borders location, the report said. The Town Center operations supervisor found the graffiti and told police it must have happened sometime over the weekend, the report said. According to the report, police believe the same person did all the graffiti.

According to the police report, “Management believes that the incidents may have been a result of upcoming union trouble regarding the construction of Walmart within the Town Center. Walmart is known for using nonunion labor and has been criticized for unfair employment practices."

The Police Department has added extra patrol to the area.

Car windows broken

A man reported that the rear hatch window of his car was broken Friday while it was parked in his friend’s driveway on Westmont Drive, according to a police report. The man parked at his friend’s house at 7:25 p.m., and when he came back out 30 minutes later, the window was broken, the report said. According to the police report, it could not be determined what object broke the window, and nothing was stolen.

In a separate incident in the same neighborhood, a man reported that the driver’s side front window of his vehicle was cracked while he was parked in his friend’s driveway on Devonshire Drive sometime between 6:30-8 p.m. Friday, according to a police report. The entire window was cracked but still intact with a small hole near the doorjamb, the report said. The report said it appeared as though the window had been shot by something and that a marble was found on the floor inside the car.
