Members of the Novi Police Department joined agencies from throughout Oakland County on Friday to participate in The Law Enforcement Torch Run fundraiser for Special Olympics International.

The relay, which included eastern and western legs that came together in Southfield, raised money and awareness for athletes who participate in Special Olympics Michigan.

"Michigan's Torch Run program had a record breaking year in 2012, raising over $1,000,000," according to its website.

During the western leg of the relay Friday, Wolverine Lake/Walled Lake Police Department handed off the torch to the Novi Police Department at around noon. Novi police ran 1.9 miles before handing off the torch to the Farmington Hills Police Department.

The western and eastern relay legs were slated to come together in Southfield and wrap up with a pizza party at the city's Civic Center.
