Novi Fire Department Promotes Officer to Lieutenant

Ryan Byrne is the newest lieutenant with the Novi Fire Department.

Fire Protection Officer Ryan Byrne is now a lieutenant with the Novi Fire Department.

He was selected after a rigorous, competitive promotional process, according to news release from the City of Novi.

“Lieutenant Byrne has demonstrated a proven ability in advancing the mission, vision and values of the Novi Fire Department," said David E. Molloy, director of Public Safety and chief of police in the release.  “The Fire Lieutenant is a key leadership position in our Public Safety team. Working in partnership with our full and part-time personnel, Lieutenant Byrne will continue to enhance the quality services our community is known for delivering.”

Byrne spent four years as a fire protection officer working closely with the fire marshal to track and classify hazardous materials stored or manufactured throughout Novi. He used this information to develop pre-incident plans intended to provide an incident commander with pertinent data needed to successfully mitigate potentially dangerous situations, the release said.

Byrne has earned a Company Citation, two Letters of Commendation, and an Honorable Mention.  He currently holds State of Michigan Company Officer I, II and III certification and Hazardous Materials-Operations certification, and is an NFPA Fire Inspector II. He attended Marian College where he studied history and political science. He studies now at Schoolcraft College and plans to enroll at Eastern Michigan University to study public safety administration.
