Novi Physical Therapist Suspended After Felony Conviction
Jessica Ann Vigil was convicted for submitting false claims to Medicare.
Novi physical therapist Jessica Ann Vigil is no longer allowed to practice after the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) suspended her license, according to a news release Wednesday.
LARA suspended her license to practice as a physical therapist after her felony conviction in the United States District Court - Eastern District of Michigan, the release said.
Vigil was convicted Aug. 1 of one felony count of Health Care Fraud Conspiracy. She was sentenced to incarceration for a period of 22 months, followed by two years of supervised release with terms, and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $2,375,000, according to the release.
The conviction was based on Vigil and co-conspirators submitting physical therapy and occupational therapy claims to Medicare for services that were not performed, the release said.
On Dec. 11, LARA issued an order summarily suspending Vigil’s license pursuant to the Public Health Code which provides for the mandatory suspension of a health professional upon the conviction of a felony.
